Last night I watched a program about elephants by a couple who had
lived thirty years living and studying them.
They videoed a very close scene of one of many groups passing the
skull of one of their own.
The elephants lined up and did what could only be defined as what
we do at a wake...
As they passed one after the other each touching the skull gently.
Some however balked and shook their trunk once very hard at it
like a person would to "keep the bad juju away" or the superstition
some do by spitting three times.
As a study of intelligence we often base it on how they treat their dead
and use of tools..
Take for instance Neanderthal man. A lot of study has been done
about how they treated their dead and tool use to find out how
"intelligent" they were.
Well, look at the elephants, they do also .
